Locally owned and operated since 1979, Pierre Paul offers timeless custom framing and stunning artwork that are anything but ordinary.
Pierre Paul owner, Lee (Leveille) Jean-Gilles, has been committed to creating memorable environments his whole life. He was first drawn to color and design as a child and was the youngest artist to ever display his work in the famous Ann Arbor Art Fair at the age of 13. Upon reaching adulthood he used his talent for design and color by opening the first Great Frame Up store in Michigan in 1979. Operating out of a store on Washtenaw Ave. in Ann Arbor, MI, Lee quickly moved up the ranks of stores within the Great Frame Up franchise and quickly became one of the foremost stores in the nation.
In 1999, Lee separated from the Great Frame Up and established himself as a locally owned and independent company which he renamed Frameology. The store was renamed Pierre Paul Art Gallery as an homage to Lee’s father, Pierre Paul Jean-Gilles who passed away in 1998. The frame shop then expanded to include a world class art gallery which showcases local, national, and international artists. A passionate art collector, this was a fitting tribute to the man who had always been a supporter of the arts.
After years of beautifying his clients’ homes with framing and artwork, Lee took the natural next step and branched out into interior design. He made his successful debut in 2007 with the lead house in the Showcase Tour of Homes in Washtenaw County. From the grand staircase to the smallest detail, Lee set himself apart as an innovative designer. Since then, he has designed spaces ranging from small condos to large, new homes to university renovations. His eye for detail and determination to bring his client’s dreams into reality lead him to establish his design firm Jean-Gilles Design, which he operates out of the Pierre Paul store.
Now, Pierre Paul is a thriving business with three divisions: Picture Framing, Art Gallery, and Interior Design. Lee has assembled a wonderful team, sharing his vision of 21st design. The three businesses work together to give our clients the highest quality in their homes. Come in today to see what Pierre Paul can do for you.

Beth, a native of Sandy, Utah is the proud daughter of a frame shop owner and an artistic mother. As such, Beth has been around both art and framing her entire life and began working at her father’s frame shop at the age of 14 to earn money for college. While obtaining her Bachelor degree, Beth worked at Grey Goose Gallery in Salt Lake City selling artwork and designing framing for paintings by award winning Utah artist Robert Duncan. In 2005, Beth moved to Ann Arbor to pursue a Master of Music degree at the University of Michigan. She was hired by Pierre Paul Design in 2006 and began to work full time for Lee after graduating in 2007 as the Senior Event Coordinator. Lee saw Beth’s eye for design and detail, and gave her responsibilities merchandising the gallery. Beth loved this creative outlet and gradually began to hang entire exhibits, helped curate art for upcoming shows, and designed framing for the show’s artwork. Her dedication and talent lead her to becoming Gallery Manager in 2010. Beth is happy to be part of the Pierre Paul team and loves working with customers to find that perfect art and framing for their home or office. Matthew has truly enjoyed his custom picture framing career for over 25 years. Born in Toledo, Ohio, he received his first job as an apprentice framer at Deluxe Frame Shop right after graduating from Maumee High School. During the next 10 years, he honed his craft as in Toledo before moving with his wife to San Jose, California. There he was able to apply his framing skills working for some of the top shops in the area. In 2011, he decided to move his family back east to Ann Arbor so that his two boys could be closer to family and was hired at Pierre Paul Design as the Picture Framing Manager. He is a wonderful asset with his extensive experience framing items ranging from standards like prints and photographs to more exotic items. Favorite past projects include a full Kimono robe, Keith Richards’ twelve string guitar, and two gold medals won by the Canadian Olympic hockey team and one silver medal for the U.S.A. Olympic hockey team. Matthew loves framing and continuously keeps abreast of the latest framing and preservation methods to make sure his clients get the best service and information when framing their precious art and heirlooms. His goal is to create designs that will both enhance and preserve our customers’ artwork for years to come. View some of Matthew’s work by visiting Framing Projects on our website.
